January 19

Well, let me just say that YouTube is TRRRBLE. What a waste of time. Oh well, good ol' Vimeo came through in the clutch. Again, everything about the picture - the over-exposure due to a face escaping the viewfinder or the ever-present dark vignette around the frame - is perfect for me. All I did was add a couple slight fades and cut for some sort of "flow." No color correction. No added effects. The picture is as it was uploaded. Due to encoding parameters, the video is a tad bit dumbed-down, but it's obviously not a big deal considering the type of film used. Again, it's a lot to do about nothing; Just felt inspired to share some of this footage. So, for your viewing pleasure:

OH, and Happy Birthday to Jessica Glockner TODAY!!! WOOO!!! January Birthdays are cool, eh? That's right they are.

One love,

  2. There is a lot that this footage says to me. I find myself watching it through different filters. In one sense, I appreciate it because I know that you put it together and I understand what it means to you. It's funny how that small bit of knowledge can change ones perception of something. It also forces me to pause and really analyze this. I feel like since you put the work in to it that you did, it deserves more than the typical kudos and for that I thank you.

It speaks a lot to what it means to be American in todays tough times. The images of people working to tear the tower down and the images of harvesting touch on the heart of this country and how hard working people like that have made it what it is today. We've lost a lot of that in today's society.

It also invoked in me feelings of how insignificant we are in the grand scheme. The melting glaciers, whales and oceans set next to people having fun and moving about in their everyday lives is great contrast. We think we are such a large part of it all but we're not. But when we come together, we can make big things happen. Just think of the history being made on this day, January 19, 2009.

The sunset is a fitting end to the clip.

The fact that it is vintage footage only furthers these feelings, and the music is amazing. For me the music makes many film sequences I see. If you take it away, you don't have much.

You're going to cut great sequences someday my friend. I only wish I had went to school to be a sound designer. Then maybe we could work together. Maybe someday.
